Pastor's Corner June 2013

While most of you think of summer as vacation time, it is the busiest time of the year for us here at church. Add the excitement and anticipation of being able to get into our new building very soon, and this may be one of the busiest times in my 37 years of ministry.

This year we have chosen to have Promotion Day for Sunday School on June 2. This basically means that from this Sunday forward you or your child will be in the Sunday School Class (or other group) corresponding to grade they were just promoted to in the regular school system. In the past we did this in the fall, but this year we will do it on June 2nd.

Next week (June 3-8) is VBS at FBC, Loretto. Our church goes all out to make this one of the most rememberable week of Bible Study in our children’s lives. This year the title of our VBS is “Kingdom Rock”. We always try to do a different Bible School from most of the other Baptist Church, so the children will get more Bible Study when they attend both – and many do!

Then there is the Men’s (& Women’s) Fishing Trip to Florida. While the actual Fishing is on June 13, most of those going will take their families and spend some extra time in the sun and on the beach.

The Youth Retreat to Orange Beach June 26-30. This is one of the best retreats they take each year. They always come home excited and on fire for Jesus.

Then on to the New Worship and Office Complex: It looks like a swarm of bees out there. Today, they are working on the front drive, raising the new church sign, hanging ceilings in the offices, painting, pulling wires, and putting up trim around doors. Earlier they gave us a preliminary date of July 4, but it looks like it will be later, simply because the recent rainy weather got them behind when working on the sheetrock. I anticipate it
will be more like the first of August. In fact some of our new chairs will not be in until then. There is still some painting we can do in the office area – be alert in Sun day Announcements for such opportunities.

Last week was Memorial Day. Each of us would do well to stop and give
thanks for the men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom and our country. In Sunday’s service, we had several who had relatives who had died while serving our country in the military. We are so sorry for your loss, but honor your loved one for their courage and commitment.

Youth Ministry Report June 2013

By: Angie & Kenneth Parker

parkers-smallIn my Bible study today, God brought me to 2 Chronicles 14. I have read this passage several times but today this caught my attention.

So he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Asa and all Judah and Benjamin, hear me. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you abandon Him, He will abandon you. For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without instruction, but when they turned to the LORD God of Israel in their distress and sought Him, He was found by them….But as for you, be strong; don’t be discouraged for your work
has a reward.” (vs 2-7)

So many times I get discouraged with the trials of ministry and I wonder if I am doing God’s work well. Today, God reminds me that “The Lord is with you when you are with Him” and “Your work has a reward.” Are you working with God? Are you discouraged in your work? Remember your work has a reward. God wants to work with you and bless you. Don’t let the trials of this life and worldly things keep you from God.
In Christ Alone,
Angie and Kenneth

Music and Senior Adults Report June 2013

By: Clayton Wilbanks

bro-clayton-smallGod is SO good! It’s so exciting to see all the things going on around our church. The building is close to being completed, the Worship services have been full of people these last few weeks, people are getting saved and joining the church family here and its evident God is at work!

I’m looking forward to VBS this year. It’s the time when we get to spend extra time with our children teaching them about following God in their lives. The workers and staff are the ones receiving the bigger blessing from the kids, I think. Please be in prayer for all of us preparing to teach and serve as well as the children that will come and hear God’s message for them. This is the most evangelistic event that we do to reach children with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every day we try to show them how God is working all around us in our lives and in our surroundings.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

We often think of this verse being for parents raising children but it applies to the church too when we are teaching and loving on them as well. I’m amazed at how many people refer to VBS when they share their life story or testimony. We are investing in the lives of our kids when we pray, serve, teach and lead in VBS. Come join us.

Yours in Christ,
Bro. Clayton
