Pastors Corner April 2013

bro-sammy-smallEaster is my most favorite time of the year!  If I could only preach on one subject for the whole year, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus would be at the top of my list.  Much of what Jesus taught about had to to with life after death.  If he had not risen from the grave, I would have wondered: “can he give me everlasting life, will I live again, what will the resurrected body be like?”, and on and on.

But that subject is moot, because Jesus is alive!  “He Lives, He Lives.” I certainly hope you will be with us at Sunday School and Worship this Easter Sunday Morning.  Everything will point to our resurrected Savior.  Last week we focused on the death of Jesus on the cross; this week we will focus on His resurrection!

Work is moving Steadily along on the new Worship Center.  Most of the final inspections prior to the Sheetrock being installed on the walls have already been completed.  Hopefully by this weekend or early next week we can see Sheetrock going up.  Last Friday, the crew installed most of the internal insulation in the office and bathroom walls – wow, what a change that made!  Once again we will be trying to do the drywall hanging and painting on the office / choir room area, so check with Terry Lee for something you may be able to do.

Please remember your Church Staff in your prayers.  This past month has been extremely difficult for us.  Besides all the normal things that happen to everybody, we found out that our Maintenance Supervisor for the Church Facilities has inoperable cancer.  Remember Bro. Mike Walters and his family in your prayers.  If you see something out of place, just be helpful and pick it up.  Then Bro. Kenneth parker, our Minister of Youth has spent several days at Vanderbilt with a collapsed lung (same lung, but two different times). He and Angie still need your prayers that the lung will heal quickly.  I thank God for the family atmosphere we have as a staff, but when one hurts it makes the rest of us hurt too.  So pray for each of the staff members of First Baptist Church, Loretto TN (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Music and Senior Adults Report April 2013

So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them “Peace be with you.” And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side.  The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with yo; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.  John 20:19ff

I love this time of the year when we celebrate Jesus coming alive out of the grave.  Every day is a celebration of the risen Savior, but during this time of the year we see new life again in nature and there’s an excitement among everyone.  It’s an opportunity for us to share this new life with others.  Look for those opportunities to encourage others and tell them the Good News of Jesus Christ.  I’m so thankful to know that God loves me enough to send His only Son to this earth to pay the debt for me.  That’s a debt of love that I could never pay back.  I’m just trusting God to do a work in me and allow me to grow closer to Him and take on the image of Christ.

Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.  John 20:29b-31
