Know: God promises in the Bible to always be with us.

Think: I never have to face anything or anyone alone because God is always with me.

Do: Confidently know God is with you because of His promises.

Jacob ran for his life to avoid his brother’s anger. He found himself far away from everything and everyone he had ever known. He was alone. Yet He would learn that God was with him. Indeed, no place on earth would be too far for God to be with him.

Know: Grace means undeserved favor, and it is only by grace we are saved.

Think: God continues to show us grace in our lives.

Do: Think about how God’s grace impacts your life.

Rebekah sought to procure the blessing for her son rather than for his older brother, as God had earlier indicated. What she sought was not unworthy. Her deceptive plot- ting against her husband was, however! And what a grudge it fostered! Yet God’s grace prevailed, even as His people acted ungraciously.

Know: God and His Word are the standard of truth.

Think: Remember to trust God’s Word for the truth.

Do: Study God’s Word to find truth.

Truth is not some abstract idea, wishful thinking, or nonsensical belief. Truth is absolute and can, indeed, be known. God and His Word are the absolute standard for all moral truth. Truth does exist, and God must be the standard for all truth.

Think: Understand that those who find God’s restoration have an obligation to help others find it as well.

Know: God used questions to help Job better understand His greatness.

Think: Marvel at the magnitude of God and adjust your view of yourself accordingly.

Do: Trust and worship God for His power, knowledge, presence, and design.

Job wondered why he suffered, but God did not tell him. We can trust God to know and do what is best, even when we don’t understand what He is doing.

Know: Job did not understand, yet he continued in his faith that God would redeem him and one day he would see God.

Think: Realize that although we don’t always understand what God is doing in our lives, we can be confident all things fit into His plan for us.

Do: Trust in God in spite of the chaos, knowing that even though you don’t understand everything life throws your way, He does.

Like a first grader tackling algebra, Job could make no sense of what was happening in his life. All he knew was that everyone, including God, seemed to have abandoned him. His “friends,” as ignorant as he, only made things worse. But Job clung to something for hope.

    • May 2016 Week 2

Know: Job’s friends falsely accused him of sin as the cause for his suffering. Job refused to give in to t heir lies.

Think: Recognize that worldly wisdom undermines the truth, but knowledge of God’s Word is the best defense.

Do: Place your confidence in God’s Word. Do not give in to advice that contradicts it.

Worldly wisdom is the ultimate group-think. It tells us what “everyone” says is true, except God. God’s truth, however, always trumps human imaginings. It is important to test what we read and hear against God’s Word.
